Fire Safety & Prevention: Know what to do, and who to call!

3/18/2021 (Permalink)

There are many causes of fire damage, electrical, cooking, storm damages, appliance malfunction, wildfires and more. As a home or businesses owner knowing your risks and how to prepare and react is important. Safety is number one when it comes to fire damage, once the safety of every family member or employee is confirmed….the next step is getting  your home or business whole again.

Here are some items to consider before fire damage impacts your life:

What is the most likely and common cause of Fire Damage?

According to FEMA, the top three causes of fires in homes are cooking, heating equipment, and electrical malfunction.

Following cooking safety recommendations, having furnaces and chimneys inspected by a professional, and knowing your electric is up to date and appliances are properly installed and hooked up can assist in limiting unnecessary risk.

Even if you do everything in your power to minimize your risk, nothing is 100% guaranteed.

What else can be done in advance for fire prevention and safety?

Test your smoke alarms once a month, make a home fire escape plan (and practice it!), and keep fire extinguishers nearby. Having everyone in the household know proper use of the Fire extinguishers will be helpful should they ever need to be used.
